Precision Technologies is a well-respected precision engineering company recently winning the Motorsport Industry Association Business of the Year Award for sales under £5 million. They specialise in manufacturing gears and splines supplied to the motorsport industry, specifically F1. Over the last few years, significant expansion has seen them invest in additional inspection technology to ensure that the parts they manufacture pass quality inspection the first time. But the F1 industry is particularly demanding, and manufactured parts produced by sub-contractors must pass ‘goods in’ quality inspection tests the first time to ensure that the finished assemblies work the first time and reliably. Accurate visual inspection and identification of surface defects provide this assurance. F1 is a challenging environment where 1/100th of a second can make the difference between a car winning and losing a race. Safety critical components are ‘stress tested’ using advanced software techniques, highlighting any areas for inspection. The visual auditing requirements for F1 have also increased significantly over the last few years, and all suppliers now need to comply with the more stringent regulations. It was, therefore, crucial that Precision Technologies had the equipment to perform a thorough quality inspection before dispatch.
Precision Technologies chose the EVO Cam II after feedback from their customers who already used these units to inspect the goods on arrival. This means that they both use the same equipment when carrying out a final inspection before despatch. The ease of use of the system is also key for both Precision Technologies and their customers—minimal operator training is required.
