Defect and Failure Analysis

Battery pack sticker rejection levels can be too high

It is well known that human inspection is not 100% effective. Fatigue, distractions, and boredom conspire to prevent defects being spotted, particularly if those defects are not obvious. Detailed examination, potentially using templates, images or taking measurements, is a time-consuming process and manual inspection is not suitable for use in a production line with large numbers of components.Battery packs manufactured on an automated line require correct placement of two rubber stickers; these must be complete and undamaged, and within a predetermined tolerance must be correctly placed.  The surface appearance of the stickers is very variable. The batteries pass under the Inspekto S70 on a conveyor belt at 12 per minute; the reasons for rejection are rubber sticker damage and misplacement.

Powerful AI spots defects and reduces errors

Powerful AI spots defects and reduces errors

The Inspekto S70 autonomous machine vision system uses a camera and a powerful AI (Artificial Intelligence) image processing system to spot defects whilst minimising false positives. The system is trained using good components and can be configured to ignore parts of the product which differ by design (such as serial number labels). It is tolerant of orientation and positioning and is capable of scanning components placed in the camera’s field of view and on a conveyor belt at rates exceeding 40ppm. Where defects are found, these are identified in red on the displayed or recorded image to facilitate rework.

Inspekto S70

The S70 can be used on many materials/components including Electrical Components, Metal, PCB’s, plastic, and rubber. This capability makes it an ideal solution for products such as injection moulded components where it can identify sink marks, pores, dents and flashing, electrical connectors-presence/missing/position, soldering on pcb’s, integrity & milling swarf in metal components, position and presence of labels, verification of coatings and O ring placement or missing.

The Optimax team with their extensive knowledge and expertise, have proven themselves to be the ideal partner for independent, candid advice. They are a company we can trust to support our metrology and visual inspection needs whether we are purchasing equipment or developing specific metrology instruments for our applications. Their experience and methodical attention to detail mean the outcomes we achieve support our testing requirements.

Dr Andrew Johnson, Assistant Director, RandA

Optimax are a trusted partner! We have been working in partnership with Optimax for several years, to supply us with inspection solutions, service, and onsite calibration to UKAS standards. Their knowledge and expertise is exceptional, they provide honest, independent advice. Optimax are quick to provide options and solutions for our inspection requirements. They work hard to deliver a solution that 100% fits the application rather than just supplying a product. Optimax work with us to ensure we achieve our inspection objectives – they are one of the first companies I turn to.

Bruce Daggett, Senior Aerospace Weston, Inspection Team Leader

For over 14 years Optimax has been providing us with inspection equipment, service and most importantly expertise. We need suppliers that can go the extra mile in looking specifically at our application and then providing a suitable and sometimes bespoke solution, and this is where Optimax have really made a difference

John Harris, Director, Nevo Developments

Optimax have an extensive product range that was very attractive to us. They took the time to understand my requirements and align a solution that fitted into my manufacturing processes. They were very knowledgeable and friendly, I found the virtual demonstration extremely helpful. The outcome of the project has been very successful and performs above expectations. I would definitely recommend Optimax.

EviXscan Quadro+

EviXscan Quadro+

Unmatched precision for industrial metrology & quality controlThe eviXscan Quadro+ is an industrial structured light 3D Scanner designed for capturing intricate details on components in high resolution. It can be used for precision metrology, quality control, reverse engineering and rapid prototyping application and is unique in having dual scanning ranges.Utilising a blue LED light source and 4 high resolution cameras (two 12 Mpix for the inner range and two 9 Mpix for the outer range) to capture highly accurate 3D data. The inner range, designed for smaller, more intricate objects, offers a point density of 351 pts/mm² and the outer range, for larger objects, provides a point density of 88 pts/mm² allowing high resolution measurementThe eviXscan Quadro+ delivers exceptional measurement accuracy, validated by VDI/VDE 2634 Part 2 standards, with precision down to 0.007 mmDespite its unparalleled precision it can scan an object in as little as 1.2 seconds with an inner range measuring approximately 220 x 160 x 90 mm and large objects with an outer range of roughly 450 x 225 x 180 mm.Designed for the rigours of the production environment and provided with he intuitive eviXscan 3D Suite software, which provides powerful tools for point cloud processing, mesh editing, and data export to common formats like STL, OBJ, and PLY. This software also allows for the seamless combination of scan data from both inner and outer ranges, providing a complete 3D representation of an objectThe eviXscan Quadro plus many uses in many industries including Automotive, Aerospace and Defence, Heavy Industry and Machinery Manufacturing, Electronics & Consumer Goods, Tooling, Molds, and Dies, Research & Development / Academia and medical.
