Tight tolerance measurement with high precision accuracy

Turn any SEM into a non-contact optical 3D metrology deviceScanning electron microscopes (SEM) use a focused beam of electrons to scan surfaces and generate quality images of sample materials and components. By integrating your digital imaging SEM with MeX, a standalone software package, you can turn it into a true surface metrology device for detailed optical inspection and testingAlicona MeX uses stereoscopic images to automatically retrieve 3D information and presents a highly accurate, robust and dense 3D dataset. Once generated the 3D dataset can be used to perform a reliable and traceable metrology examination of the componentThanks to MeX, the SEM magnification is irrelevant and non-contact measurements can be taken on a macro and micro level without the need for any additional hardware. Measure height and roughness to EN ISO 4287/4288 standards, understand the volume of voids and protrusions and analyse area measurements with unrivalled detailFeaturing an AutoCalibration routine, MeX will automatically refine data for traceable 3D measurements. Turn any SEM into a non-contact optical 3D metrology device with Alicona MeX.

Entry-level portable roughness measuring instrumentThe Mahr MarSurf PS10 is an entry-level tactile stylus based surface measurement device that is both intuitive and simple to use, for high precision surface measurement of most surfaces. It features a removable drive unit and TFT touch display which can be turned in any direction, making the MarSurf PS10 ideal for use in production manufacturing applicationsThe small and lightweight design ensures roughness measurements can be taken anywhere within the facility, yet it has the same range of functionality as a laboratory-based instrumentMeasuring records can be saved as PDF files in the instrument itself (up to 1500) or transferred using MarCom for long-term storage.Stylus method measuring principle with either 2μm probe as default or option of 5μm probe depending on the application. Mobile, high resolution measurement

Stable 3D measurements from development to production
Surface roughness measurement can be made using an optical 3D system or a tactile probe system. A tactile line-based profilometer captures a single or series of 2D profile across a surface (R values) whereas an optical 3D metrology system captures an entire area providing the calculation of advanced surface parameters or (“S” values) that are areal based and 3D providing more accurate details about the surface and its function.
An optical system is non-contact and will not cause surface damage and is not subject to stylus wear which could affect accuracy. An optical system has very fine vertical and lateral resolution enabling measurement of fine surface details whereas a line-based system provide high Z-resolution with lateral resolution being restricted by the stylus tip size.
Optical systems can also be more readily automated and used within the manufacturing process, reducing the risk of human error that could affect the result. Modern optical systems such as the FocusX from Bruker Alicona provide one click roughness measurement removing the need for metrology knowledge.
Optimax provides both the optical non-contact system from Bruker Alicona and tactile systems from Mahr and will recommend which solution is best for the application.
